Guide to fitted oil boiler prices

24/05/2020

How much does a new oil boiler cost to install?

Depending on boiler size and quality, the cost of a new oil boiler including installation costs is around: £3,400 - £4,500 for an internal combi boiler and £2,500 - £3,800 for an internal heat only boiler (assuming the cylinder is retained). Prices increase by around £300 - £400 for an external model and add around £500 if the boiler is moving to a new location (inside or outside). We guide you on common oil boiler installation costs for a range of scenarios.

Oil boiler installation cost scenarios

The tables below set out approximate installation costs for a new oil boiler in a range of scenarios, including prices for internal and external models. Costs include the price of the boiler, standard flue, powerflush, standard control, running a new condense pipe, magnetic filter, labour and VAT. We have assumed a mid-range, mid-size, model. Costs exclude any associated building works.

Prices for oil boilers vary according to manufacturer and size. For example, oil combi boilers start at £2,000 and go up to £2,600. Heat only boilers start at £1,150 and go up to £2,800. For a more detailed breakdown of standalone boiler prices try our Guide to Oil Boiler Prices. If you also need to change your tank you can find more detailed information on our Guide to fitted tank costs where we provide prices for a range of scenarios.

At the end of the guide give costs for other common components that may need to be added or replaced as part of a new boiler installation.

Other cost considerations

Other external components may be required at the point of a new installation, for example: an external fire valve, oil filter or additional flue lengths. Our handy glossary below shows all the component parts of an oil boiler installation along with approximate replacement costs where applicable (assuming they are undertaken at the same time as a new boiler installation).

NB these are given only as a guide. Your attending engineer will be able to give you a bespoke quote according to your circumstances.

Cost considerations

Component Approximate costs
Vertical balanced flue extension (additional lengths of flue). £90
Plume management kit - to direct boiler emissions away from windows and driveways. £150 (£60 per additional 1m extension as required)
Flexible liner kit - for running flue into existing brick chimney breasts. £400
Tiger loop - keeps a constant supply in the pipe to ensure no air is pulled through causing boiler lock out £200 (including twin pipe installation)
Fire valve - cuts the oil supply if the temperature goes over 85 degrees. For new installations it is located outside the building as the oil pipe rises into the house. £80 (range of 3-9m)
£120 (range of 9m+)
Oil filter - removes impurities and debris from the oil supply (often as a result of a deteriorating tank). £80
Oil watchman - monitors oil levels and sounds alarm for overfill £120
