How to turn OFF the pre-heat on your Ideal combi boiler to save 5-10%
You can save around 5-10% on your gas bill when you turn the 'pre-heat' off on your Ideal combi boiler
Combi boilers are often located some distance from the bathrooms, so it can take time and many wasted litres of water to reach the taps. Some boilers have what is called a 'hot water pre-heat' function. This keeps a small amount of hot water ready inside the boiler which can be deployed quicker when you turn on the hot tap.
To make this happen, the boiler will fire about every 90 minutes and will use a little gas every time, but over the year it really adds up! An untimed pre-heat has been found to use around 500-750kWh (about 5-10% of the average household's gas bill).
In this blog we show you how to turn off the pre-heat on Ideal combi boilers. It is important to note that not all Ideal boilers have a pre-heat and some have a pre-heat that you cannot switch off :(. We have only listed the models with a pre-heat function you can turn off. Many models have the same control panel so we have grouped them together.
If wait times are a real problem for you, perhaps consider a Combi Save. This device restricts the water passing through the boiler until the water hot enough and saves both gas and water.

Can't find your boiler?
It is definitely a combi boiler? It will be a combi boiler if you do not have a hot water cylinder. If it is a combi boiler and your model is not showing then it is likely to be a model that does not have a pre-heat option.
