Programmable Room Stats
Programmable room stats are the most efficient way to control your heating . They allow you to set up the heating system to run automatically around the times you are at home over a seven day period. For a few years now manufacturers have offered the facility to control remotely from a smart phone. Worcester Bosch offer the WAVE control which includes weather compensation for additional boiler efficiencies. Both Worcester and Ideal boilers are compatible with the HIVE or the NEST smart phone systems. For those that do not want to control from their phone, both manufacturers offer high quality 7-day products that are usually covered by the same guarantee or warranty as the boiler if fitted at the same time.
Magnetic Filters have been around for about 10 years. The early models had thier problems but, as with any product in development, they have been resolved and the function improved further. The filters work by the 'magnetite' (black residue found in dirty heating systems) sticking to the magnet in the filter, so that the system water is continually 'cleaned' as it passes through the unit. A magnetic filter does not replace the need for a 'powerflush' or 'hot system flush' which should always be undertaken when a boiler is changed.
Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs)
We often find that a radiator system does not have any thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) or it has just a few of varying age and quality. TRVs are a great energy saving device. They mean each radiator can be controlled individually, so for example bedroom radiators can be turned down to a lower setting than the radiator in the lounge. We highly recommend TRVs on all radiators (with the exception of the radiator where the thermostat is located) as they are cost effective to install and bring about big savings.
